FIRE ALARAM SYSTEM

Inspection & Testing - Service & Repair - Sales - Monitoring - Design & Installation

FIRST ALERT OF FIRE:

Fire alarm systems often provide the first notification of fire in a building. They can be as simple as a stand-alone smoke detector. Or they can be as complex as thousands of networked sensors, relays, activations, and notification devices. The systems can sound alarms, initiate smoke evacuation, stairwell pressurization, elevator recall and shut trip, HVAC shuts, fire door activation, and even human voice instructions.

REGULARLY MONITORED:

Fire alarm systems send signals regularly to monitoring facilities that react immediately to emergency situations, dispatching first responders. They also monitor for system trouble and supervisory signals, alerting the owner of possible problems with the system.

COMPREHENSIVE QUALITY SERVICE:

Unico employs the highest-level of certified fire alarm designers and technicians. We have our own electrical department that installs the conduit, wiring, and devices, as well as provides power and communications wiring to the panel(s). Our in-house fire alarm technicians program, test, and certify the system.

Fire Hose Reel

Inspection & Testing - Service & Repair - Sales - Monitoring - Design & Installation

Fire hoses have been installed for many years in various types of buildings.

Unico Trading & Services

have engineers who can install new hose reels, repair existing hose reels, maintain hose reels, and de-commission Hose Reels Hose Reels can be installed in various configurations:

Fixed Reel:

  • These units are fixed directly to the wall of a building; the hose is fed through a hose guide for ease of operation.

Swinging Reel:

  • The swinging reel is also fitted to the wall, however instead of having a hose guide the whole reel swings to whichever direction it is required making it easier to use in some situations.

Recessed reels:

  • These reels are fitted into a recess usually within a cabinet, these reels have the benefit of blending in with their environment, they are especially sulked for areas where aesthetics is a concern.
  • The Fixed and Swinging type come in Manual or Automatic operation, the Manual type means the operator must open an isolation valve prior to use, whereas the Automatic type has a valve fitted inside the reel which allows the water to turn on when the hose is pulled out by the user.
  • Many organizations are now removing Hose Reels for various reasons. Firstly, Hose Reds when used can become an obstacle to personnel creating a trip hazard for people who may be evacuating the building, secondly the hoses may restrict the closing of fire doors if they are running through the door-way, thirdly it has been suggested that if the operator of the reel has an unlimited supply of water they may continue to fight a fire which could be gaining in size which in turn could block the users escape route. Another problem with hose reels is the possible risk of legionella in the stagnant water within the Hose Reel.
  • In general, the installation of hose reels should only be carried out after careful considerations and a Fire Risk Assessment
  • If you have Hose Reels which require maintenance or de-commissioning, or simply just advice please call or email.

Fire Pumps FM/UL Listed

Inspection & Testing - Service & Repair - Sales - Monitoring - Design & Installation

Fire pumps are powered by an electric motor or diesel engine. If the local building code requires power independent of the local electric power grid, a pump using an electric motor may utilize what's called a transfer switch that directs power over to an emergency generator in the event of a power failure.

The fire pump starts when the pressure in the fire sprinkler system drops below a threshold. The sprinkler system pressure drops significantly when one or more fire sprinklers are activated or alter-natively when other firefighting connections are opened, causing a pressure drop.

Types of pumps used for fire service include

horizontal split case, vertical split case, vertical inline, vertical turbine, and end suction.

A jockey pump is a small pump connected to a fire sprinkler system in parallel with the fire pump. It maintains pressure in a fire protection piping system to an artificially high level so that the operation of a single fire sprinkler will cause an appreciable pressure drop which will be easily sensed by the fire pump automatic controller, causing the fire pump to start. The jockey pump is essentially a portion of the fire pump's control system.

Fire pump installations and retrofits are governed by the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) NFPA 20 Standard for the Installation of Stationary Fire Pumps for Fire Protection.

The purpose of a deluge system is to quickly wet down an entire hazard area to prevent fire foam spreading contain hazardous materials such as: flammable liquids, chemicals, and explosives, Rooms with high ceilings, sometimes use deluge systems, as it is difficult to direct water over the burning area form such a distance.
